Introducing Forest Gate Church, Mitcheldean

Forest Gate Church are pleased to join the Partnership UK family and hope that we will have many opportunities over the coming months and years to receive and give support to other Christian communities to enable us all to introduce our towns and villages to Jesus.

We are a reasonably small, rural church that is non-denominational in the village of Mitcheldean. John and I are the senior leaders of the church and we are supported by a wider leadership team to help oversee the operation of the church. We believe that we are purposed here to reach the families of Mitcheldean and the surrounding areas and work with other community groups and St. Michael’s Church in Mitcheldean to accomplish this.

Twice a week we host a parent and toddler group, called Little Sprouts. This is very popular and families come from all over the Forest of Dean to visit us.

Fortnightly, we operate a drop-in youth club, called the Y with tuck shop, pool table, tennis table, darts boards, Xbox games, music and areas just to chill and chat to staff.

Once a month we host a senior citizen lunch club, which is popular and we have the blessing of a mini-bus so that the seniors who live in the village can be picked up and transported home afterwards.

We have yearly courses of Parenting workshops from Care for the Family. Two of our congregation are facilitators for this.  Four people in our congregation are trained facilitators for Keys to Freedom by Mercy UK, a discipleship course specifically aimed for those who may have either faced trauma or have never dealt with difficult issues in their life. Every other year we run a Christianity Explored course for those exploring faith in Jesus.

All of these activities are run from our youth and community building.

Most Sunday mornings we meet at Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean at 10.30am. The space at the school allows us room to grow and extra space for the kids and youth church to run alongside adult church. Throughout the week both youth and adult church meet up for home groups, to help us to grow in our faith, through encouraging times of fellowship, communion, Bible study & prayer. We offer opportunities every week for corporate times of prayer together as we believe that prayer underpins everything we do.
