DESCRIPTION:It is significant that the Bible has one who  le book dedicated to lament. It is also significant that in the collection of songs that form the heart of worship in the Bible\, the most common of the psalms is that of lament. For those of us who have been humanly privileged to have been born white and in the West\, the language of lament has not been one which we have used often – or perhaps often felt the need for. The fact that for a large proportion of Christians in the West\, life is generally reasonably comfortable\, seems to have led to our losing our ability to deal with suffering biblically. In other words\, our theology of suffering is poor. This webinar will explore how we might recapture the biblical genre of lament for today’s Europe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSimon Marshall has been a teacher\, church pastor and Principal of Tilsley College\nin Scotland. He is now the International Director for European Christian Mission International. He was brought up in the south-east of England but has lived in the Faroe Islands\, France\, India and Czech Republic as well as Scotland. DESCRIPTION:‘There was a man who had two sons…’ When Jesus wants to illustrate what obedience to God means\, he doesn’t reach for Grudem\, but rather a story. \nWho is in good standing with God? Jesus tells us\, ‘Two men went up to the temple to pray….’ The lost sheep\, the prodigal son\, the sower and the seed\, the house built on sand – Jesus is the master story teller and his stories and parables have been spoken powerfully  to our culture over the last thousand years. \nOn Saturday 30th Jan we’re going to run a Zoom workshop exploring the place and power of story telling in teaching\, preaching and communicating the Christian message. In following Jesus\, all of us have stories to tell\, childhood memories\, great holiday disasters\, work and family and church life are all stuffed full of material. Half the UK’s novelists and more of the UK’s stand up comics rely almost totally on mining these rich resources. And that is to say nothing of the stories of others we collect along the way\, the impact of a scripture on a billboard\, searching the parks pitch for a contact lens in the Gospel Hall New Year’s Day football game or seeing the face of Jesus in an encounter with a starving child. \nEveryone who wants to communicate in a Christian context needs to think about story as a vehicle for truth. DESCRIPTION:Who would have thought\, when it started\, that Covid19 would prevent some of our churches from meeting physically for 7 months? It is never easy leading a church\, but the pandemic has brought new pressures. Here is a chance for leaders to meet\, discuss\, share\, learn from each other\, encourage\, support and pray. \nEven without Covid\, Partnership East covers 7616 square miles\, with some churches are 100 miles apart – so the online meet-up saves a lot of time and CO2. \nOnline Zoom Meet-Up\, is scheduled once a month\, for 45 minutes.
